Memphis International Airport
Elevator & Escalator Replacements
Memphis & Shelby County Airport Authority
project description
The Memphis & Shelby County Airport Authority commissioned HGA to replace two elevators in Terminals A and C. The work included enlargement of the elevator shafts, modification of existing structural members and providing new elevators that meet current codes and standards, including accessibility requirements.
In addition to replacing two elevators in Terminals A and C, HGA also detailed drawings for replacing ten escalators at Terminals A and C. This equipment also was to meet current codes and standards, including accessibility requirements. Status: this project is currently under construction- escalator phase 2 complete, escalator phase 1 on-going and elevators are complete Contractor: Inman-EMJ Construction |
Before & After
As visible in these photographs, the escalators were dark and bulky (to the left) prior to construction. Now, with the addition of thinner, glass balustrades, the escalators now have a lighter, cleaner appearance. In some areas, also shown in these photographs, the escalators are in nearly enclosed spaces, and the new, lighter appearance makes a difference.
